Annual 2023 results of the composition of psychoactive products circulating in France (SINTES update No. 10)
In total, 731 collections of psychoactive products were carried out under the OFDT's SINTES system in 2023, an increase of 17% compared to 2022.
- The cocaine collected in 2023 by SINTES remained highly concentrated and little adulterated.
- The cannabis collections corresponded to new forms of the product and had high THC contents.
- For heroin, the indicative values of active ingredient content remained stable in 2023, pending a potential change due to the sharp decrease in opium production in Afghanistan. However, samples of heroin adulterated with synthetic cannabinoids, or containing only this product, were the subject of a health alert in the Île-de-France region.
- Nitazenes, a new class of synthetic opioids classified as narcotics in July 2024, were identified by SINTES in 2023 in nine collections, notably in the context of two health alerts in Montpellier and La Réunion.
- The circulation of hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), which appeared in France in 2022 and was classified as a narcotic in June 2023, and that of other semi-synthetic cannabinoids were confirmed in 2023.
- Pink cocaine, which analyses showed was most often a combination of ketamine and MDMA, was rarely collected in 2023.
- A diversification of products containing synthetic cannabinoids, particularly in edible form, was observed in 2023.
- 3-MMC was very rarely identified in 2023, mainly replaced by 3-CMC.
