Tobacco smoking and tobacco cessation in 2023

OFDT has published its annual report on tobacco smoking and tobacco cessation in 2023 in France.

Tobacco use declining, vaping increasing

The volumes of tobacco sold within the tobacconist retailer network decreased by 7% in 2023, in comparison with 2022 (on a constant number of delivery days). Tobacco smoking prevalences among young people are the lowest seen in 20 years. The vaping market is on the rise, as is its use: 6.2% of 17-year-olds and 5.5% of adults were vaping on a daily basis in 2022.

Tobacco cessation treatments still on the rise

In line with previous years, but even more so, the sale of tobacco cessation treatments grew by 12.8% between 2022 and 2023, much as the annual number of sole beneficiaries of health insurance reimbursements (+10.8%).
