Main results of the Crack study in the Ile-de-France region - Overview
This overview presents the main results of a partnership between the French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) and the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (Inserm), the aim of which is to describe and evaluate the current crack cocaine situation in Île-de-France in order, in particular, to improve the treatment of users and, more generally, the response of the public authorities to a phenomenon that has been identified for around thirty years.
After a brief historical review, the first part of this summary is devoted to the supply and use of crack cocaine and to the various players involved, as well as to the geographical areas in which they are located.
The second part addresses the organisation of the crack cocaine market in Paris and its surrounding area.
Finally, the third part focuses more specifically on users, with a description of their profiles, their relationships with the settings in which they evolve and an analysis of their expectations and needs in terms of treatment and harm reduction.
This summary concludes with the various public policy recommendations that emerge from this research.
