Behavioural addictions: definitions, issues and debates

Behavioural addictions still make up a scientific and clinical field under construction, characterised by a low consensus level which results in large numbers of concepts, terms, definitions and measuring tools.

This report proposes an analysis grid of this vast field constructed around behavioural addictions. By drawing attention to the structural elements at the root of its complexity, it aims to facilitate the tracking of researchers and professionals wishing to enter into, find their way or see themselves more clearly in the abundant literature relevant to these behaviours.

For this study, 403 publications have been consulted. Considering the extent of the themes covered, this literature review focused on the understanding of concepts and definitions, the identification of different points of view, and issues and obstacles regarding the progress in knowledge for each possible object of addiction.
