Melchior Simioni holds a doctorate in sociology from Sorbonne University (2020), is an agrégé in economic and social sciences and a former student at the École normale supérieure de Cachan. 

His work focuses on the economic sociology of the prison system, the sociology of quantification and the sociology of matching. 

Seconded to the OFDT in September 2022, Melchior Simioni heads the survey on health and substances in prison (ESSPRI), which aims to obtain data on the health and drug use of prisoners that is comparable with the data available for the general population.
